First U.S. Exhibition of Gao Feng's 70 Drawing Narrative of the Naxi Dongba Tale WORSHIP HEAVEN at the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures during the month of March, 2005, in conjunction with the Corpus Christi Festival of Arts Entrance to exhibit of 70 drawings mounted on 22 scrolls hung on red felt panels suspended from ceiling on bamboo poles Gao Feng's Han writing brush with black ink draws Dongba symbols on rice paper to interpret Naxi genesis tale Examples of modern additions to Dongba pictograms by Gao, Naxi, Han, and Texas school children Gao's greeting and 1st 3 illustrations of WORSHIP HEAVEN This 1st exhibit was organized under the Museum directorship of Catherine LaCroix and the Board Presidency Bill Jue. Jue saw "each piece as both shi yitu (painting representing the idea of a poem) and tishihua (painting inscribed with a poem". LaCroix saw that Gao's work would interest not only collectors of different forms of Asian calligraphy like Jue, but also pre adolescent collectors of mangas and animes.  Gao's family, Chinese consul, and a Museum board member As an American, my first reaction to Gao's work had also been that it resembled a giant's cartoon strip awaiting annimation.  next  --> p. 3 pre-Atlanta show tupdated Aug 9,2024  In Atlanta.
